Interview Strategies for OMSCS Students and Alumni

Tuesday, May 12, 1:25–2:25 p.m.
Room 236
Presenter: Megan R. Elrath
Modality: Workshop

Abstract

Preparing for an interview goes beyond technical skills. This interactive workshop helps OMSCS students and alumni approach interviews strategically, focusing on professional readiness, clear communication, and presenting their experience effectively.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Research roles and companies efficiently
  • Frame academic projects, internships, and personal experience in ways that resonate with employers
  • Respond to behavioral questions using structured storytelling
  • Build confidence and reduce anxiety in both virtual and in-person interviews

Through discussion and practical examples, participants will explore strategies for highlighting their skills and experiences, even in highly technical fields, and for demonstrating collaboration, problem-solving, and professional growth. Attendees will also leave with actionable preparation tools and frameworks they can apply immediately to internship and job interviews.

This workshop is ideal for conference attendees who want to strengthen their interview performance, communicate their value clearly, and enter the hiring process with confidence.
