Abstract
In this fireside chat, David Joyner will be joined by John P. Imlay, Jr. Dean of the College of Computing Vivek Sarkar. The two will talk about Dean Sarkar's experience getting to know the online student body, David's ideas on the future of AI in education, and Dean Sarkar's thoughts on future expansion of online doctoral opportunities. They will then take questions from the audience about everything from OMSCS to computer science in general to book recommendations to the meaning of life.

| David Joyner is an educator, and his passion is for leveraging new technologies to improve student learning, especially at scale. He focuses on online learning due to its potential to improve outcomes, expand impact, and reduce the cost to students. Toward these ends, he also looks at the roles that artificial intelligence, social communities, interface design, and numerous other factors can play in improving the student and teacher experience at all levels, from K-12 to graduate school. David is the Associate Dean for Off-Campus & Special Initiatives and the Executive Director of Online Education & OMSCS in the College of Computing, a Principal Research Associate at Georgia Tech, and the inaugural holder of the Zvi Galil PEACE (Pervasive Equitable Access to Computing Education) Chair. In these roles, he researches, teaches, and supports online students at the graduate and undergraduate levels. He teaches several classes, and he has authored dozens of research papers (and four books) on topics around learning at scale, computer science education, and artificial intelligence for instruction. |

| Vivek Sarkar is John P. Imlay, Jr. Dean of the College of Computing at Georgia Tech, and a professor in the School of Computer Science. He conducts research in multiple aspects of parallel computing including programming languages, compilers, runtime systems, and debugging and verification systems for high performance computers.
