Identifying Needs of the Online Graduate Students at Georgia Tech

Abstract

This talk will cover the findings of the "Demographics and Needs of Online Graduate Students at Georgia Tech" report prepared by the Graduate SGA's (Student Government Association) Online Students Committee in Spring 2024. This talk with highlight online student demographics (age distribution, country, gender ratio, etc.), insights from focus groups, particularly concerning lifestyle factors and desired program outcomes, and data collected from online forums, such as Reddit. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about the report, provide feedback, and reflect on how their own experiences may be like or unlike the experiences of others in the program.

Bio

Abbie is a hardware research engineer and a part-time student in the OMSCS program. Abbie has been a yellow jacket for nearly a decade. She began her time at Georgia Tech with the high school Distance Math program in 2015 and graduated with a B.S. in Computer Engineering in 2021. Abbie currently serves as the chair of the Online Student Affairs Committee in the Graduate SGA and as a TA for CS 6220: Intro to High-Performance Computing.
