What do you do professionally?
Senior Software Engineer at Gametime United.
Why do you TA for OMSCS?
I started TA-ing because of CSE 6220. The class was at risk of going away, and I wanted other students to get the chance to experience what I thought was one of the best classes in the program. I continue to TA because I want as many students as possible to be able to experience some of the best CS classes one could take. It also gives me the opportunity to work with professors in a capacity that you don't often get as a student.
What is your advice for future OMSCS students?
Focus on how you learn. For me, I learn best by applying what I am learning, so I tend to focus on projects more than papers or exams. That translates to doing well on exams because it still helps me learn the crux of topics. Some people learn better by reading and dissecting papers. Focus on what works best for you, and not what works for others. The hard part is finding what works best for you, and I'd suggest project-based learning.
What's your best study hack?
Watch lectures on 1.5-2x speed and don't rewind. You may miss a lot of detail, but you catch more than you would think. Pick up the missing details by reading papers, asking questions in Piazza, and doing projects. The asynchronous nature of the program allows for study hacks that on-campus students can't take advantage of.
