2024 OMSCS Conference Virtual Activities

We've got a handful of ways for you to engage with the OMSCS Conference virtually. Keep reading for details!

Note that Code Words and Kahoot! Trivia are only for those who are registered to attend the conference virtually. The other activities are open to all attendees.

Social Media Hashtags

We encourage you to post about the OMSCS Conference on social media leading up to and during the conference! Use the hashtags below to enhance your social media posts, and if you're posting on Instagram or Twitter/X, be sure to also tag @gtomscs and @gtcomputing!

• #OMSCSConf2024: This is the general conference hashtag. Include this in all your conference-related posts!
  • Example: Soooooo many trees on the GT campus!! #OMSCSConf2024 @gtomscs @gtcomputing
• #petsofomscs: This one's for the animal lovers! Share photos of the pets who have supported you throughout the program!
  • Example: Here's a picture of my dog helping me train my RL model for my CS7642 final project. #petsofomscs @gtomscs @gtcomputing
• #weareomscs: Who are the people who have supported you throughout OMSCS? Use this hashtag to shout out friends, family, classmates, instructors, TAs, and anyone else who supported you during your OMSCS journey.
  • Example: What a great time meeting my Teams-mates in-person in Atlanta this week. #weareomscs @gtomscs @gtcomputing
• #whyididomscs: Why did you enroll in OMSCS? Share why you joined the program and why you stuck with it.
  • Example: OMSCS has prepared me well for my career switch to software engineering. #whyididomscs @gtomscs @gtcomputing
• #omscsgems: Use this hashtag to share content "gems" from OMSCS: inspiring presentations from the OMSCS Conference; lectures or readings from OMSCS courses; or any educational material from the program that struck a chord with you!

Code Words (virtual attendees only)

Code Words provide an opportunity for virtual attendees to engage with conference presentations! Each presentation taking place in the auditorium (Room 236) has a Code Word associated with it. If you hear the presenter say their Code Word during their presentation, type it into the Zoom chat. For each presentation, the first 10 virtual attendees to type the Code Word into the chat will be entered into a raffle to win some cool swag!

Example: The Code Word for the "Machine Learning Potentials for Large-Scale Simulations" presentation is "buzzworthy". If the presenter says this Code Word, the first 10 people to type "buzzworthy" into the Zoom chat will be entered into the raffle.

Kahoot! Trivia (virtual attendees only)

Wednesday, April 30, 12:00-1:05 pm

Compete with fellow conference attendees and demonstrate your knowledge of Georgia Tech and OMSCS history! Trivia will be provided through the Kahoot! platform, which is free to use.

Getting Started

1. You will be sent a link to join the trivia game on Kahoot!.
2. After clicking this link, enter your name. Please enter the name from your conference nametag, and not a nickname—this will help us when awarding prizes.
3. Select a character, and pick an accessory for them if you'd like! (Note that you can't change your selection once the game begins.)

Answering Questions

• There are 20 trivia questions; each question has 4 answer choices, and only one correct answer. The current question number is displayed at the top left corner of the screen.
• Once the game begins, you will see the first question. You will have 20 seconds to answer each question—you will see a countdown timer on the lefthand side of the screen.
• Select the correct answer from the 4 choices.
• This is a game of both speed and accuracy! You gain points for each correct answer, and you gain additional points by answering more quickly than other players. (Incorrect answers get 0 points.)
• After each question, your score will be updated, and you will see what position you are on the leaderboard.

The 3 players with the most points after all 20 questions have been asked will win swag prizes!

Never Have I Ever

Never Have I Ever will take place during the following breaks:

Tuesday, April 30

• 2:00-2:20 pm
• 3:45-4:05 pm

Wednesday, May 1

• 2:15-2:30 pm
• 3:30-3:45 pm

"Never Have I Ever" is a game where players respond to a prompt based on whether or not they have done what the prompt says. A host from the OMSCS Conference team will post the prompts in the conference Zoom chat.

For example, if the prompt is "Never have I ever been scuba diving", any players who have gone scuba diving would respond by performing a certain action. Since this game is happening virtually, if you have done what the prompt says, you can respond by using emoji reactions to react to the prompt. You may also feel free to share a story or details if you'd like!
